Running for a Cure

On the morning of March 18, 2012, I will join thousands of others in the Georgia Marathon as a member of Team in Training. The goal of this remarkable journey is to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Prior to signing up for the marathon, I had never even run a full mile.  I decided to take on this incredible challenge because every four minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies. Lymphoma and myeloma are the No.1 disease killers in children. By participating in the marathon, I hope to raise awareness and money towards finding cures for blood cancers and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. If one person can be saved from blood cancer, my efforts to run 26 miles and to raise money for this cause will not be in vain.

I am now up to 16 miles in my training, but this has not been an easy journey. There have been plenty of moments where I just wanted to give up.  When that alarm goes off at 6:30am on Saturday morning, or when I go outside and it’s only 30° out, and especially when I pulled a muscle last week.  It’s in those moments of weakness that I think about all the lives I’m saving and use that as my motivation to keep running.

I have agreed to raise a minimum of $1,000 to support this important work. I hope that you will share this incredible journey with me by supporting me in my fundraising efforts. By raising funds we all help to find cures and more effective treatment for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.    Please consider making a fully tax-deductible donation to help me achieve my goal. No amount is too small. Please visit my personal fundraising webpage to make a donation: [http://pages.teamintraining.org/ga/Georgia12/ejeffreys]

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your consideration and support. I will keep you updated on my progress as I continue my fundraising and training efforts and take part in this incredible event!
